Developing fictional, yet research-based, representations of key user types

Journey Maps

Synthesizing qualitative insights to map user experiences over time.

Concept Testing

Getting early feedback on product ideas or prototypes before investing in full design.

Diary Studies

Longitudinal studies where participants document their experiences over time.

Contextual Inquiry

Observing users in their natural environment while asking questions.

Quantitative

Surveys

Used to gather structured data at scale, often using closed-ended questions, Likert scales, or ranking.

Card sorting

Helps understand how users categorize information for better IA design.
